Obituary From Adams Soderstrum Funeral Home, Story County, Iowa.

Dale Leland Geise, age 90, of Ames, passed away on Wednesday, October 17, 2018 at Israel Hospice House in Ames, Iowa.

Dale was born on the family farm near Underwood, Iowa on September 26, 1928. He was the son of Arthur and Anna (Jensen) Geise. Dale loved the old farm life as a child and youth, but it left a hunger for bigger adventures. Some of that came with his service in Korea from 1951-1952 where he was awared the Purple Heart and the Silver Star. Dale graduated from Iowa University and valued being a teacher for 33 years, always seeking to help the lesser skilled. While attending Iowa University in 1956, a friend asked Dale to come to The Union to meet someone special, and he did, beyond his dreams. Dale was united in marriage to Carolyn Ann Heckman (Oakland, Iowa) on August 4, 1957. For Dale, love of family came first and always with Carolyn beside him. In the summers from 1970-1985, with the help of family and friends, he took over 500 Jr./Sr. youth on wilderness canoe trips to the Minnesota/Canada border. Three trips some summers with teenagers in an old school bus equaled a wonderful adventure! On one difficult portage with rain, mud, and mosquitos, a young boy becoming a man, stopped and said, “Mr. G., this is why we come.” Dale was honored as a teacher and a community volunteer by shaking hands with two Governors: Bob Ray and Tom Vilsack.

Dale is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Carolyn Ann; a daughter, Alison (Randy) Brown of Rivera, TX; sons: Evan (Wendy) of Burlington, NC, Doran (Nancy) of Topeka, KS, Brandon (Molly) of Story City, IA; and eight grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Dudley Geise.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, October 27, 2018 at the First United Methodist Church in Ames. Visitation will be held at the First United Methodist Church (Ames) from 5-7:00 P.M. on Friday, October 26, 2018. A private family burial will follow at the Center Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Adams Funeral Home and online condolences may be left for the family at www.adamsstrum.com.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be directed to the Israel Hospice House, First United Methodist Church, or Friends of the Boundary Waters, 401 N. 3rd Street #290, Minneapolis, MN 55401.
