Last Rites For Mrs. Kirkendall Held Thursday

Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at 2 p.m. at the Morfoot Funeral Home for Mrs. Earl Kirkendall, 54, lifelong resident of Story county, who passed away Tuesday morning after a long illness.

Rev. James D. Ransom officiated at the last rites which were largely attended.

Casket bearers were Joseph Stiller, Samuel Carstons, Donald Morrow, Gary Wells, William Foster, and Clifford Miller.

Burial was in the Nevada cemetery.

The following obituary was read by Rev. Ransom.

Obituary

"Ruth McConnell was born in Maxwell, Iowa, on April 17, 1895, the first daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Asa McConnell. She passed away at her home in Nevada on August 23, 1949, after a lingering illness, having been bedfast for the past nine months. She spent almost her entire lifetime in Story county with the exception of a short time in Minnesota and Des Moines.

Ruth was married on July 6, 1914, at Carroll, Iowa, to Earl Kirkendall of Nevada. To this union twelve children were born, nine of whom are living. They are Wayne of Alameda, California, Virginia of Villa Park, Illinois; Maxine of Des Moines; Elizabeth of Ottumwa; Francis of Ames; Marian of Iowa City; Doris of Elynia, Ohio; Diane and Dick of Nevada. Three children preceded the mother in death, they being Phyllis who died in 1944, Dorothy and Robert passing away in infancy.

Also surviving her are twelve grandchildren, her mother, Mrs. Asa McConnell of Nevada, three sisters, Mabel Lee of Algona, Helen Parish of Elmhurst, Illinois, Betty McConnell of Woodward and three brothers, Maurice of Hawaii, Glen and Fred McConnell of Nevada.

She also leaves a host of friends to mourn her passing."
