Services For R. E. Harshbarger Held Thursday

Funeral services for Russell E. Harshbarger, 61, 317 Seventh street, whose death occurred Monday, Aug. 22, were held from the Methodist church Thursday afternoon at 2:30 with the Rev. G. S. Nichols of Ames and Rev. Floyd Smith of Nevada, officiating.

Fred McLain sang three solos, "The Old Rugged Cross", "In the Garden" and "Face to Face". He was accompanied by Mrs. Norman C. Dobson at the organ.

The many beautiful floral offerings were arranged by Mrs. Albert Twedt, Mrs. Don Olson, Mrs. Martha Clark and Miss Margaret Hilleman. There was also a sum of money given Mrs. Harshbarger to be used in his memory.

The active casket bearers were David Buck, Randall Gross, Chester Dickinson, Ralph Buck, C. H. Stanford and Denton Summers.

The honorary pall bearers were Herbert, Andrew, Irving Erickson, John McNerney, Howard Mills, Donald Olson and Harry Sherk.

Masonic services were conducted at the graveside in charge of I. R. Kempkes. Burial was in the Nevada cemetery.

Born In Ohio

Russell Ervin Harshbarger, 317 Seventh street, died Monday, August 22 at 12:40 p. m. at the Deaconess hospital in Marshalltown as the result of a stroke he suffered on Wednesday, Aug. 18.

Mr. Harshbarger was born June 7, 1888, at West Milton, Ohio a son of Lloyd and Electa Harshbarger, his age at the time of his death being 61 years, one month and 15 days.

He was married at Galena, Ill. to Hilda Ladwig, May 5, 1931 who survives him. He is also survived by a son Darwin Harchbarger fo Waterloo and a daughter, Mrs. Francis Readout of Marshalltown, by a precious marriage, and three step children, Mrs. Irma Swan of Winfield, Dr. V. D. Ladwig of Sac City and Mrs. Velma Kralik of Cromwell.

He also leaves ten grandchildren, two brothers, Wm. Harshbarger and Roy of West Milton, Ohio, an done sister, Mrs. Anna Sheppy of Union, Ohio.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Howard, Charles and Loren.

Was A Mason

Mr. Harshbarger was a member of the Nevada Masonic Lodge and the Order of the Eastern Star and at the time of his death was Associate Patron of the O. E. S. and the last three years had held office in the Masonic lodge. He was also a member of Juda White Shrine in Ames, and of the Collegiate Methodist church in Ames.

During the four years the deceased was a resident of Nevada he made a wide circle of friends who are saddened by his sudden passing. He had been a salesman for a number of years and was a man of fine integrity and an estimable citizen.

Relatives and friends from out of town were for the last rites, were from West Milton and Piqua, Ohio; Omaha, Neb., Waterloo, Marshalltown, Grundy Center, State Center, Rhodes, Sac City, Prescott, Indianola, Ainsworth, Cedar Rapdis, Latimer, Des Moines, Creston, Grinnell, Cromwell, Boone, Hampton, Winfield, Albion, Ames, Colo, Collins and Maxwell.
