HELD FUNERAL FOR HIGH SCHOOL GIRL
ESTER GIBBS LAID TO REST IN NEVADA CEMETERY WEDNESDAY
Funeral services for Esther Gibbs, 16, popular Nevada high school girl, whose death on Sunday evening had saddened the community drew a concourse of relatives and friends that filled the Methodist Episcopal church to capacity Wednesday afternoon.
The service was in charge of her pastor, Rev. Geo. A. Lawton and the songs were by Mrs. Beulah Freeland and D. L. Arrasmith, with Mrs. Hathaway at the organ.
The floral offerings were many and very beautiful and were cared for by Misses Sina Baumgardner and Esther Mathison, assisting the church committee.
Esther, being a member of the Nevada high school band, that organization in uniform attended the service in a body and marched in lead of the funeral procession to the cemetery.
Honorary pallbearers were from her class in high school, they being Della Arrasmith, Laura Jane Handsaker, Bernice Hemstock, Florabel Houston, Jeanette McCaffrey and Frances McKim.
Active pallbearers were Fred Boardman, James Borgen, John Borgen, Frank Elkins, Garrett Freeland, Harry Hardin, Harold Hubbard and Frank Lough.
The obituary of the deceased, as read by the pastor follows:
"Esther Elizabeth, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. I. O. Gibbs was born at New Providence, September 8, 1915 and died at the Iowa sanitarium, Sunday, July 3, at 5:15 p. m. At the age of five with her family she came to Nevada arriving on Christmas in 1921. Nevada has been her home since that time. Here she has lived, attended school and made her friends. Immediately after locating in Nevada, Esther started to school. This year she finished her second year in high school. She took very active part in the activities of the school. She was member of mixed chorus and was a member of the high school band fro the time of its organization. Her last appearance with the band was in Des Moines when it took part in a celebration. Through her personality and enthusiasm she became very popular with her schoolmates in school.
"Esther was given a birthright in the Friends church when a little girl. After coming to Nevada she became interested in the Methodist Episcopal church and became a member of the Sunday school. Three years ago she was baptized by Rev. L. E. Watson and received into the membership of the Methodist church. She was also, of the Woodman Junior Circle Number 19 of Nevada.
"She leaves to mourn their loss besides her father and mother, one brother, Clare; two sisters, Mrs. Mildred Ellis and Mrs. Lola Perry; two grandparents, Mr. J. W. Gibbs of Lodi, Calif. and Mrs. M. C. Welsh of Chico, Calif.; two great aunts, Mrs. Esther Maloy for whom Esther was named and Mrs. Cassi Bavender of Union, Iowa. Also many other relatives and a very large circle of friends.
"It is hard for us to understand why one so young and full of promise should be taken. We know God doeth all things well. We would leave all things in His hands, trusting in His Goodness."
