Dayton Funeral Wednesday Afternoon

Funeral services for A. L. Dayton, 59,of 317 K avenue, long time resident of Nevada, were held Wednesday afternoon at the Methodist Episcopal church, followed by interment in the Nevada cemetery.

The services were conducted by Rev. C. E. Lookingbill, assisted by Rev. Geo. A. Lawton and were in accordance with a request made by the deceased previous to going to the Methodist hospital in Des Moines, for the operation, which developed conditions from which he died.

The pallbearers were from among his associates in the Knights of Pythias lodge, they being L. O. Borgen, C. A. Batman, E. L. McConkle, Jay K. Banks and Merril Marchall of Nevada and Henry Fischer of Dixon, Ill.

The services were attended by a large group of relatives and old friends and neighbors, many of them being from McCallsburg, Colo and other parts of the county, where he had a wide acquaintance.

The following sketch of the life of the deceased, was read during the service.

"Arthur L. Dayton, son of L. M. and Helen Dayton, was born in Sycamore, Illinois in the year 1874 and passed away at the Methodist hospital in Des Moines on May 15th, 1933, age 59 years, 2 months and 4 days. When 9 years of age he moved with his parents to Colo, Iowa, where he grew to manhood. In the year 1896 he was united in marriage to Amelia Menzel and to this union were born one son, Raymond, who passed away in infancy; and one daughter, Blanche, wife of A. H. Griffith of Ames.

"Besides his wife and daughter, Mrs. Dayton leaves to mourn his passing two sisters, Mrs. Carrie Elwood of Toledo and Helen, wife of Charles Starbuck of Milford township; and one brother, William A. Dayton of Abilene, Kansas.

"Mr. Dayton, who for many years had been engaged in the real estate and insurance business in Nevada, of later years had conducted an amusement park and been connected with various other kinds of business. He was a man of strong character and highly respected for his many good qualities.

"A member of Samson lodge No. 77 Knights of Pythias for many years, he had been closely connected with the affairs of that order in later years, and was highly regarded in that circle of friends he had there acquired."
