Funeral Services Held Monday for Selsby Christy

Funeral rites for Selsby Christy, 17, who died at his home in Milford township on Friday, were held at the Nevada Methodist church on Monday afternoon--on his seventeenth birthday.

The auditorium of the church as well filled with relatives and friends who had gathered to pay a final tribute of love and respect to the boy, and to add a word of comfort to the sorrowing parents.

The service was in charge of Rev. C. D. Loose, assisted by Rev. Theodore Yackel of the Evangelical church. Burial was in the Nevada cemetery.

The following life sketch of the deceased was read during the services:

"Selsby Christy, oldest son of Carl S. and Jennie Brodie Christy, was born in Richland township, north of Nevada, May 27, 1923, and passed away at this home in Milford township May 24, 1940, at the age of 17 years.

Selsby had been in ill health practically all of his life. At the age of 2 1/2 years he was stricken with infantile paralysis, from which his body never fully recovered. In his earlier years he was strong enough to attend the public schools, where he proved himself to be a keen and ready student. But the strain on the body was too much for him, and it was necessary for him to remain away from school, in the home, where his education continued under the direction of a private tutor. He had a keen mind, one that kept abreast of the times and took an active interest in the the fast-moving events of life.

"Courageously patient in all his illness, he seldom, if ever, complained. His disposition was sweet and winning and not of a complaining nature at all. He was appreciative of every kindness and courtesy shown him; and most of all, appreciative of the tender care which his mother constantly gave him. He drew large comfort and satisfaction for his growing and developing life from watching through his window the coming and going of the children at Milford schools. Even though they may never have realized it, they were his constant companions, from whom came much gladness to his life.

"Selsby was never able to attend the services of any church, except the Sunday school services in his very early years. But his Christian training was not neglected, but was carried on in the home as only a Christian and devoted mother knows how to administer."

He leaves to sorrow in his passing his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Carl S. Christy, his brother Billy with whom he had a very close attachment, his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Dave O. Christy, his grandmother Brodie, together with a large circle of other relatives and friends.
