DEATH CALLED PIONEER

Mrs. Mary Hanson Passed Away at Story City.

Story City, April 2--Mrs. Mary Hanson died at her home in Story City on March 18th, 1923, at the age of 77 years, 2 months and 23 days. She was born in Yylland, Denmark, December 28th, 1845. She came to America in 1870 and settled in Chicago where she was married to Hans Christenson. To this union were born six children, two dying in infancy. they lived in Chicago at the time of the great Chicago fire, in which they lost everything but what they could carry with them. In 1878 they moved to Story City, where she has lived ever since. She went into the dressmaking and millinery business with which she made an honest living and brought up the family of children, her husband being in poor health until his death March 1st, 1886.

In 1911 she was married to Hans Hanson with whom she lived to the time of her death. She had been in poor health and badly crippled for the last several years, caused by a number of bad falls. Last Thanksgiving Day she took seriously ill and she realized that her days were numbered and that she would soon be called home to meet her Savior and be with her loved ones gone before, whom she had a sure hope of meeting. Her mind was clear up to the last days and she enjoyed the visits of all who came to see her especially those who could bring a message from Jesus and would would pray with her. She felt very thankful to them. She had been a faithful member of the Bethel Lutheran church since its organization by Rev. C. C. Holter. She was a true Christian and a kind hearted wife and mother and will be greatly missed by her many friends and relatives.

She leaves to mourn her death, her husband, Hans Hanson, four children, Mrs. Mary Holm, of Story City; Mrs. Nea Cue of Pipestone, Minn., Albert Christenson of Clemons and Mrs. Clara Jensen of Des Mones; fourteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren and a host of friends. Funeral services were held in the Bethel church, Rev. Paulsrude officiated assisted by Rev. Heimarck.
