George B. Peterson, Jr.
February 23, 1930 - August 01, 2018

George B. Peterson, Jr., Shelbyville, died Wednesday, August 1, 2018 at Masonic Home of Shelbyville following a long illness. A native of Ames, Iowa, he was the son of the late George B. Peterson, Sr. and Alice Erickson Peterson. He was a graduate of Iowa State University and later acquired an MBA at Harvard School of Business. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. His career began at Dow Chemical Company, where he worked in the advertising department. As a respected journalist, he became the publisher of an industrial magazine known as “Heat Treating”, which he later sold. He then relocated to Lexington, where he became involved in the thoroughbred horse industry. He was Lutheran by faith.

Survivors include his three children, Ericka Hammond Peterson Dana (Rich) of Guernsey, IA, George B. Peterson III (Christine) of Bagdad and Elizabeth Houge Peterson Grossberger (Kenneth J.) of Cortlandt Manor, NY; one sister, Martha A. Celmer (Larry) of Broomfield, CO; one nephew, Lon Celmer and one niece, Kristen Celmer.

Cremation was selected in accordance with his wishes. A private memorial service and interment of the cremated remains will occur at a later date.
