From Grandon Funeral and Cremation Care obituary, Ames, Story County, Iowa:

Carolyn "Doris" Olson age 87, of Ames, Iowa, died August 8, 2018, at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. A gathering of friends and family will be 2:00 -- 4:00 p.m. Sunday, August 12, at Grandon Funeral and Cremation Care, 414 Lincoln Way, with a Celebration of Doris's life at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, August 13, at Westside Church of Christ, 107 Abraham Drive, Ames, Iowa.

Doris was born December 28, 1930, in Humeston, Iowa, the daughter of Leo and Carrie Moser. The family moved to Story County where they farmed. Doris graduated from Fernald High School. She married Ronald Dean Olson on June 6, 1953, in Ames. Dean and Doris lived on the Iowa State University Curtis Farm for 34 years. She was a member of Westside Church of Christ, she was a board member of the Ames Town and Country Saddle Club, 4H Club leader of Washington Happenings and the County Horse Project, leader and assister at Iowa State Fair, she was inducted into the 4 H Foundation Hall of Fame in 2014. She led bible studies at care facilities in Story County. Doris had a love of horses and dogs. She was someone who never stopped looking for simple ways to bless people, and those simple things had a huge life effect... a life well lived and an example for all.

Doris is survived by two daughters and sons in-law, Mary and Mike Boswell of Canyon, Texas, Jane and Jerry Spurlin of Fort Dodge. Three grandchildren, Clint (Delisa) Boswell Sunray, Texas, Jesseca (John) Jackson Bushland, Texas, Matthew Spurlin of Ames: five great grandchildren Jaret Campbell, Bray Boswell, Brylee Boswell, Jett Jackson and Case Jackson.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Dean Olson, in 2009, a brother and sisters.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Israel Family Hospice House.
