Obituary From Adams Soderstrum Funeral Home, Story County, Iowa.

LaVonne Schumann 91, of Ames, passed away August 16, at Vintage Hills in Ankeny. Visitation will be 5-7 pm Thursday, August 23, at Adams Funeral Home in Ames. Funeral Service will be 11:00 am Friday, August 24, at First United Methodist Church in Ames. Burial will be in the Ames Municipal Cemetery.

E. LaVonne Schumann was born September 13, 1926 in Des Moines, Iowa but grew up in Perry, Iowa the daughter of Frank E. and Ethel (Repp) Daniels. LaVonne graduated from Perry High School and Drake University receiving a BS in Elementary Education. She taught first grade in Manning, Indianola and Colo, Iowa, the latter for over 20 years. She also worked for Younkers in Des Moines, Donnellys in Nevada, as a secretary for the ISU radio personality, Martha Duncan, as a staff member of Ames Senior High School, and at Engeldingers in Ames. LaVonne married Howard Schumann on December 21, 1947 in Perry. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, FUMC women’s circle, Methodist Bridge Club and sang in the church choir for nearly 50 years. She was also a member of Alpha Xi Delta at Drake University, PEO, three bridge clubs, a book club and played the piano every Monday night at Windsor Oaks, where she lived for eighteen years. LaVonne has resided in Ames since 1950.

LaVonne is survived by her daughter, Deborah Lynn (Delmer) Harris of Overland Park, Kansas and their daughters, Margaret (Matt King) Harris of Chippenham, England, Katherine (Andrew) Parran and their daughter Kestrel of Upper Marlboro, Maryland; her son, Howard Allen (Melissa) Schumann of Ankeny and their children, Nick Klatt of Polk City and Madison Klatt of Ankeny; sister Marie (Dan) Fellows and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Joy Marie; sister, Joy Berdine and her special friend, Victor Tamashunas.
