FORMER NEVADA WOMAN IS DEAD

MRS. EMILY HORNBERGER DIED AT HOME OF SON IN OMAHA

Mrs. Emily Hornberger, 70, died Friday at the home of her only son, E. Z. Hornberger in Omaha after a lingering illness, during which time she had been a sufferer from cancer.

Mrs. Hornberger, whose maiden name was Emily Purkhiser, was born in Indiana November 24, 1860, but came to Nevada with her parents and others of the family when a girl. She was a daughter of Michael and Elizabeth Purkhiser, respected Nevada pioneers.

She attended the public schools in Nevada and after attaining her womanhood taught here for several years, after which she went to Nebraska and became identified with school work in Lincoln. It was there that she was married to J. A. Hornberger, who died a number of years ago.

One son, E. Z. Hornberger was born to them and has been a resident of Omaha for several years.

Following her school work in Lincoln she became connected with the Child Welfare work in that county and continued that line of endeavor for some time after which she was called to state office in that same line of work. She continued in the state work until about a year ago, when she was compelled to give it up because of failing health.

She leaves three sisters of her immediate family, in addition to her son. The sisters are Mrs. Laura Halsey of Madrid and Mrs. Elizabeth and Dr. Lillian Purkhiser of Des Moines.

She also leaves many nephews and nieces in Nevada and other parts of Iowa.

Mrs. Hornberger was a woman of fine talent and character and will leave a large circle of friends and acquaintances to mourn her death with the members of the family.

C. A. Batman, a nephew, will go out to Omaha Sunday and will attend the funeral services, which will be held there Monday. Interment will be at Lincoln, Neb., by the side of the husband who died a number of years ago.
