2 KILLED, 5 INJURED AT COLO TODAY

3 Autos In Fatal Wreck On Lincoln

Wort Crash on Story Highways Occurred This Afternoon

Special to the Journal.
Colo, Aug. 30--(3:00)--Two people were killed outright and five others injured three of them seriously, in a three way motor car crash on the Lincoln highway, just west of the Thornton corner, here this afternoon at 2:30.

The dead:
Mrs. D. A. Kappenhaven*
D. A. Kappenhaven*, both of 515 Marion street, Boone.
Seriously injured:
Mrs. Grace E. Cope of Bokkenhoff apartments, Des Mones and her daughters, Dorothy and Marjory.
Slightly injured:
Miss Prudence Peirce, of 1357 Penn street, Des Moines.
Carl Jansen, Rock Rapids, iowa

There were none of those who were in the accident able to give an explanation of how it occurred.

The Kappenhavens were in a Studebaker sedan, west bound, the Des Moines parties in a car bound for Minneapolis to spend Labor Day, while the Rock Rapids man was in a Graham-Paige.

Mrs. Cope and one daughter was taken to Iowa Sanitarium, Nevada while one of the daughters was taken by a passing motorist to the St. Thomas hospital in Marshalltown.

It is reported that Mrs. Cope and the daughter taken to Nevada are in a serious condition while the one taken to Marshalltown has a broken hip and severe lacerations of the face and body.

Mr. Kappenhaven was killed outright and Mrs. Kappenhaven died shortly after the accident occurred.

Mr. Jansen and Miss Pierce were neither of them seriously injured, although cut and bruised and suffering from shock.

As near as could be learned the Rock Rapids car was passing the Studebaker and in some manner came in contact with it throwing it over in front of the Des Moines car.

Traffic here was tied up for some time pending the removal of the bodies of the two dead people, the caring for the injured and removal of the wrecked cars from the paving.

Both Dr. Glann and Dr. Goodenow were called and assisted in caring for the injured, before they were taken to hospitals, and Sheriff Hattery was on the scene within a short time checking up on the accident.

*SUBMITTER'S NOTE: Those killed in the accident were Steven A. Koppenhaver and, his wife, Carrie May (Ades) Koppenhaver.
