Bates Funeral is On Sunday Afternoon

Special to the Journal.
Ames, July 10--Funeral services for W. S. Bates, 52, well known local business man of Ames, who died at Iowa sanitarium, Nevada Tuesday evening of high blood pressure and other complications, will be held at the Ames Lutheran church Sunday afternoon at 5:00, after which interment will be in the Ames cemetery.

The services will be in charge of Rev. L. A. Pierson, assisted by Dr. O. H. Cessna, chaplain of Iowa State college. Private services for immediate relatives and friends will be held at the Adams chapel at 4:30.

Mr. Bates was the owner-manager of the Bates baking company at 409 Duff avenue and was prominent in community affairs. He was a thirty-second degree member of the Ames Masonic lodge, a member of the Shrine, Ames Rotary club, chamber of commerce and Ames Lutheran church.

Besides his wife, Mr. Bates is survived by one daughter, Ruth, 12, and a brother, L. D. Bates of Pasadena, Cal.

Mr. Bates was born at Olin near Cedar Rapids on Feb. 10, 1878 but moved to Des Moines with his parents at the age of three. He was the son of Attorney John G. Bates a well-known former member of the Des Moines bar, who died in 1898.
