AGED MAN DIED AT COLLINS TODAY

FATHER OF MRS. ELDON PATTERSON PASSED AWAY AT HER HOME THERE

Collins, June 27--George W. Matthews, 82, aged father of Mrs. Eldon Patterson, died at the home of his daughter in Collins early today, after having been confined to his bed for 17 weeks, following injuries and a broken hip.

Funeral services will be held at the Patterson home Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock, after which interment will be in Evergreen cemetery at Collins.

Mr. Matthews was a native of Illinois having been born in Kendall county, November 3, 1848. He continued there where at the age of 26 he was united in marriage to Miss Mary Steel, who with one son, Charles Matthews preceded him in death.

The four surviving children are Mrs. Gertrude Patterson of Collins, Ralph Matthews of St. Charles, Harley Matthews of Des Moines and Roy Matthews of Osceola.

The family home had been over around Osceola for many years, but he had spent the last few years of his life with his only daughter.

SUBMITTER'S NOTE: George Willis Mathews and Mary Lucetta Steele were married in Tazewell County, Illinois on 2 August 1874. Record also shows George Mathews was born in Tazewell County, not Kendall County as stated above.
