SLATER MAN DIED IN MINNESOTA

FRED BROWN, 38, BROUGHT BACK TO OLD HOME FOR FUNERAL AND BURIAL

Slater, Jan. 3--Relatives and friends were shocked and saddened by the news of the death of Fred Brown, age 38, of Jackson, Minnesota, who died January 2 at Bethel Hospital, Mountain Lake, Minnesota, following a series operation for ruptured appendicitis. He lived three days after the operation. Funeral services were held here Monday afternoon at one and two o'clock at the Lincoln church. The services were in charge of his pastor, Rev. A. M. Manues of Jackson assisted by Rev. [unreadable] of Dows.

The funeral offerings were unusually beautiful. A quartette, composed of Mrs. Harry Lundahl, Mrs. Edwin Sundberg, Raymond Engstrom and C. Cleven of the St. John Lutheran church of Madrid, sang, "Tell It To Jesus" and "Home Of The Soul", accompanied by Miss Helen Seberg.

A duet, "No Disappointment In Heaven" was sung by Mrs. M. S. Heggen and Mrs. A. L. Peterson. Six cousins served as pall bearers, Milford and Ossey Brown of Slater, T. and C. Thompson of Eagle Grove, J. E. and Andrew Sheldahl of Kelley. Interment was made in the Slater cemetery.

Fred Brown was born September 10, 1891 on a farm, three miles southwest of Slater in Boone county. His parents were Mr. and Mrs. John R. Brown. Both have preceded him in death. Since the year 1916 he has lived near Jackson, Minn., engaged in farming. He was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church at Jackson. He was young man of sterling character, beloved by all, and enjoyed the friendship of a large circle of friends. He leaves to mourn his loss seven sisters and six brothers, all present at the services: Mrs. Esther Tiegen of Jackson, Mrs. Margaret Herlund, Mrs. Anna Weeks and Miss Mabel Brown of Slater, Carrie, Ruth and Beulah of Madrid, Howard and Joe of Jackson, Oscar of Petersburg, Jack of Des Moines, Earl and Thomas of Madrid, besides a large number of relatives and friends.

Among the relatives present from out of town were: Mr. and Mrs. Albert Tiegen and son Wallace, Joe and Howard Brown of Jackson, R. D. Hedlund of Dunbar, Halvor Thompson and sons of Eagle Grove, Oscar Brown of Petersburg, Mr. and Mrs. T. Engen of Clarion, Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Erickson, Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Freeland of Cambridge, Alfred Ryerson of Ames, Oscar and Reinert Ryerson of Kelley.
