Bonnie Lee Birchmier, 91, of Maxwell, passed away Thursday, June 28, 2018, in her home at Courtyard Estates in Bondurant.

Bonnie was born September 23, 1926, in Collins, Iowa the daughter of Leonard Lee and Charlotte Faye (Carver) Clement. She had lived in Collins, Waterloo and Minneapolis, Minnesota graduating from high school in Minneapolis. Bonnie worked at First National Bank in Minneapolis until she was united in marriage to Joseph Birchmier on October 16, 1948, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Nevada. Together they raised five children.

Bonnie was a homemaker and worked at Rumbaugh’s Grocery Store for five years. She lived all her married life in the Maxwell and Collins area, spending 14 winters in Mission, Texas. Bonnie’s hobbies were reading, working crossword puzzles, dominos, playing cards and sewing. She also enjoyed 4-H of which she was a leader and a county council member. She loved watching her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren show their projects. Her family was her pride and joy.

Bonnie is survived by her son, Stephen (Jeanie) Birchmier of Maxwell; her daughters: Catherine (Gary) Tichenor of Nevada, Teresa (Ted) Stoneberg of Arcadia, WI, Mary Beth (Rod) Maxwell of Maxwell and Diana (Michael) Holl of Nevada; 11 grandchildren: Bill Stoneberg, Shain (Kelley) Birchmier, Jason (Kerri) Maxwell, Tami (Mike) Hohmann, Shawna (Nate) Forsyth, Joe (Lynn) Stoneberg, Alisa (Robert) Woodward, Erin (Joe) Mousel, Justin Holl, John (Abby) Maxwell and Nate Holl; along with 20 great-grandchildren. Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joseph; her brothers: Ernest and Ted Clement; and her sister, Shirley Clement.

Visitation will be 3-5 p.m. Sunday, July 1 at Rasmusson-Bacon Funeral Home in Maxwell. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Monday, July 2 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Colo with Fr. Rick Dagit officiating. Burial will follow at St. James Catholic Cemetery in Colo.

Memorial contributions may be made to the St. James Cemetery Association and the Story County Fair Board.

Rasmusson-Bacon Funeral Home in Maxwell is handling arrangements.
