Obituary From Adams Soderstrum Funeral Home, Story County, Iowa.

Celia Baker 94, of Ames, passed away Saturday, June 30, at Bethany Life in Story City with her family by her side. Visitation will be 5-7 pm Sunday, July 8, at Adams Funeral Home in Ames. A Celebration of Life will be 2:00 pm Monday, July 9, at Bethany Life Chapel in Story City. Burial will be in Story Memorial Gardens in Ames.

Celia was born January 17, 1924 in Story County, Iowa to Harry and Nora (Emerson) Evans. She attended Shipley School and graduated from Nevada High School in 1941. On October 25, 1942, she married Charles Elwyn Baker. They lived in Tacoma, Washington until Charles discharge from the Army when they returned to the Story County area. Celia was a waitress at Richard's Nibble Nook for many years, later buying that restaurant locally known as Baker's Buffet. After several years she partnered in the popular Fu Lin, the first Chinese restaurant in Ames. Upon her "retirement", Celia worked at Northwood Schools in Ames in the lunch department. After complete retirement they moved to Holiday Lake, Brooklyn, Iowa for several years and loved living on the lake with daily pontoon boat rides, they also wintered in Donna, Texas for many years.

Celia enjoyed watching Iowa State Hockey and rarely missed a game through the years. She also liked watching sports on TV It didn't matter who was playing or who won, just that both teams got a score. Celia and Charles played cards once a month for years with friends from high school which was always a highlight. She loved getting and collecting post cards, watching and feeding the birds, shopping (especially in Mexico), and visiting with friends and family.

Celia was preceded in death by her husband, Charles; her parents; brother, Wilford Evans; sister, Wilma Evans, and an infant son, David Lynn Baker. She is survived by her son Richard (Betty) Baker of Story City; daughter, Gail (Gary) Wierson of Ames, grandchildren, Lisa, Jenny, Kari, Amanda, Jeff (Andrea), Brian (Annie), and Emily (Brian); great grandchildren, Alec, Josie, Charlie, Aiden, Preston, Tate, Jovie, Brinley, and Evan, plus many nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to the Story County Freedom Flight or to the family for distribution at a later date. Online condolences may be left at adamssodertrum.com
