Bob was born August 27, 1939, a son of Edwin and Clarice Hein. He was raised on the farm and walked to a one-room country school before attending Osage High School, graduating in 1957. After 30 years in Illinois, Bob brought Ann back to Iowa where they energetically embraced life in Ames. Bob enjoyed leadership roles at church, Green Hills retirement community, and Sons of Norway. He loved spending his time singing in choirs, going to wrestling tournaments, ISU athetic events, and travelling with his family.
