Obituary From Adams Soderstrum Funeral Home, Story County, Iowa.

Kathleen “Kay” MacVey 92, of Ames formerly of Plover, IA passed away May 28, 2018 at her home in Ames. Funeral service will be 11:00 am Friday, June 1, at Calvary United Methodist Church in Ames. Visitation will be 5-7 pm Thursday, May 31, at Adams Funeral Home in Ames. Burial will be 11:00 am Monday, June 4, in the Powhatan Township Cemetery near Plover.

Kathleen Anna MacVey was born May 28, 1926 in Palmer, Iowa to Roman and Mary (Auten) Booge. She graduated from Nevis High school in Minnesota In 1944. Kay was married to James Eldon MacVey April 11, 1945 at Rolfe Methodist Church. Kay and Eldon farmed near Plover Iowa. Eldon passed away in 1978 and Kay stayed on the farm until 2000 when she moved to Ames to be closer to family. Kay was a member of Hope United Methodist church in Plover. She was a very active member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She served as Department of Iowa President in 1977-78. Kay served Iowa American Legion Auxiliary Girls State for 25 years as a counselor and mentor for high school girls. She loved veterans and made countless lap robes, wheelchair bags and other items for the VA Medical Center and Iowa Veterans Home. She enjoyed quilting, needlepoint, crafting, and playing cards.

Kay is survived by her daughter, Sandy (Mike) Deacon of Ames; daughter in law, Cheryl MacVey of Omaha, NE; three grandchildren, Wendi (MacVey) Peterson, Matthew (Mandy) MacVey, Mark (Mari) MacVey; nine great grandchildren, Hannah, Jaeden, Annika, Liam, Logan, Graham, Emerson, Kellan, Will and many nieces and nephews.

Kay was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Dennis MacVey; and two brothers, Francis and Vincent Booge

In lieu of flowers memorials may be addressed to the family to be used for programs of the American Legion Auxiliary, St Croix Hospice and other interests in which Kay was involved. Online condolences may be left at adamssoderstrum.com
