Alice Effie Bigford Bales, 94, of Ames, passed away on May 17th. She was a resident of Ames for the past five years, living with her daughter and son-in-law.

Alice was born in Manawa, Wisconsin on July 20, 1923 to Roger Collins and Grace Dick Bigford. She was a resident of Wisconsin for most of her life.

Alice married Gerald Lee Bales of Hope, Arkansas on March 9, 1946 in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. Her husband preceded her in death in 1978. Alice and Gerry are survived by four children: Francy (Les) Bieneman of Monroe, WI, Ken (Val) Bales of Appleton, WI, Nancy (Iver) Anderson of Ames, and Tom (Despy) Bales of St. Charles, IL. She loved her nine grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren with all of her heart.

Alice had a sunny personality, enjoyed life, her family and friends, adored her pet dogs, and was a life-long knitter.

A celebration of her life will be held on Wednesday, June 6th at two o’clock in the sanctuary at Collegiate Presbyterian Church, 159 Sheldon Avenue, Ames.
