Jacqueline Maakestad, age 85, of Story City and formerly of Radcliffe, IA, passed away on Sunday, March 18, 2018 at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames, IA.
Jacqueline Rose (Popejoy) Maakestad was born at home on October 5, 1932, to Virgil and Sarah (Channel) Popejoy. On December 31, 1950, she was united in marriage to Cliff Maakestad. They made their home northwest of Radcliffe. She kept busy raising 5 children. She and Cliff started their own business, Cliff and Jackies Flowers.
After Jackie sold her business she began working as a CNA. She worked for Story City Hospital, Homeward Hospice and did activities with skilled patients at Mary Greeley Medical Center until she retired. She then began staying with elderly adults, so they could remain in their homes. She truly enjoyed caring for people.One of her greatest loves was her grandchildren. She spent hours with them fishing, cooking, baking and following them in all their activities.
In 2014 she moved to Cedar Place in Story City. She really enjoyed living there. Great friendships were made. She was involved in many activities including playing cards with friends. She loved being part of the Cedar Place family.
Jackie Maakestad, age 85, of Story City, formerly of Radcliffe, passed away Sunday, March 18th of Israel Family Hospice House. She is now in the arms of the Lord.Jackie is survived by three sons: Jeff (Tammy), Jon (Annette), both of Radcliffe; Jim (Wendy) of Hubbard; and two daughters Janelle (Dave) Norem of Radcliffe; and Sherri (Tim) Engel of Story City; 15 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren; two sisters Darlene McClenathan of Deep River and Nellie (Orlan) Mossman of Hubbard.
Jackie will be missed by many relatives and friends. Jackie was preceded in death by her husband, Cliff, her parents Virgil and Sarah, and two brothers Larry and Duane.
