Obituary From Adams Soderstrum Funeral Home, Story County, Iowa.

Kathryn Eschbach 94, of Ames, passed away March 26, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames with family by her side. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, April 4th at 11:00 am, at St Paul Lutheran Church in Ames.

Kathryn Edith (Wessel) Eschbach was born October 26, 1923, to Lawrence and Bessie (Jeffords) Wessel in Britt, Iowa. She grew up in the Belmont and Dows, area. She was born fourth in a family of ten children. She graduated from Ames High School in 1942 and joined the Navy in 1943, stationed in Norfolk, Virginia. After serving her country she moved back to the Midwest and settled in Ames. She began working at Eschbach Music House where she met her husband Walter Eschbach. During her forty plus year career at the music store she raised five children. Kay was a voracious reader who enjoyed nothing better than a good book. Through her book reading and self-taught geography studies she would travel the world without ever leaving her home. She also enjoyed going to the opera with her brother Bob Wessel. Kay was a kind and caring soul and always took the time to listen when her children and grandchildren needed advice. The family and all who knew her are mourning the loss of Kay, a loving mother, grandma and friend.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter; son, Michael; five brothers and one sister.

Kay is survived by four children, Kim (Bill) Koppen of Seeley Lake, MT, Scott Eschbach of Ames, Jackie Eschbach- Sondrol of Winslow, ME, Shelly Eschbach of Scranton; 4 grandchildren, Lindsey, Jordan, Chase & Selah, brother, Tom Wessel; sisters, Donna Erickson & Betty Dodge; and sisters-in-law, Edith Wessel & Phylis Schulz.
