Obituary From Adams Soderstrum Funeral Home, Story County, Iowa.
Kathy Rissler, age 86, passed away February 18, 2018. Memorial services will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 21 at the O'Riley Center, 417 Wyoming Ave., in Creston. We encourage you to wear your brightest colors in honor of her memory.
Nannie "Kathryn" Rissler was born November 14, 1931 to Wesley and Zelma (Lenz) Doughty in Streator, Illinois. She completed a teaching certificate from Kirksville State Teachers College (now Truman State University) in Kirksville, Mo. She taught at a country school near Milan, MO for two years before moving to Creston.
Kathy married David Rissler in Jamesport, MO on September 16, 1951.
She was a gifted piano teacher, who touched the lives of many children and families for nearly 40 years of teaching. Twice a year the baking began weeks before to prepare for the recital and reception she would host in her home. She was a consummate homemaker, decorator, gardener, and fashionista who never left the house without her lipstick! Her family is forever enveloped in memories of the music and light she brought to them and her undying devotion to her late husband, her two daughters, their spouses, and her beloved grandchildren. We can all thank God that her myriad medical issues have come to an end, and, as she has longed for this past year, she is now reunited with Dave and dancing with him across Heaven.
Kathryn is survived by her daughters, Melodie (Richard) Chitty of Greene and Heather (Gary) Botine of Ames; her grandchildren, Phillip (Robin) Duple, Meagan Wrecsics, Anna (Dan) Acheson, Claire (Brian) Marsh, Spencer Botine and Sadie Botine; her great-grandchildren, Nora, Abby, Emmy, Jake and Ezra; and her sisters, Elaine Anderson of Spokane, Wash., Marge Schapaugh of Trenton, Mo., Marilyn (Ray) Dunn of Kearney, Mo. and Beverly (Jim) Whorton of Trenton.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, David; her brothers, Eugene Doughty and Merle Doughty; and her sisters, Barbara Doughty and Rose Anna Ramian.
