Mary Ellen (Molly) Bowen Borts, 94, died peacefully at 8:13 PM on January 10, 2018, at the Eastern Star Masonic Home long-term care in Boone, Iowa. She was born August 10, 1923, in Maxwell, Iowa, in the home of her parents, Maurice Sidney Bowen (1894-1965) and his wife Bertha Clara Askland (1894-1985). She was married on her birthday in 1940 to Duane Alfred (Barney) Borts who preceded her in death on April 1, 1989 in Tucson, Arizona.

She is survived by 3 daughters, Sheryl Ann Rock (Peter) of New York City, Nancy Lee Cline (James) of North Port, Florida, and Mary Charlene Smith of New York City, and 4 grandchildren, Michael Patrick Johnson (Ingrid) of Herndon, Virginia, Kevin Lawrence Johnson (Sande) of Boulder, Colorado, Nancy Ann Johnson of Wakefield, Rhode Island, and Colleen Therese Johnson Boff (Robert) of Perrysburg, Ohio, and 7 great-grandchildren, Andrew, Alexandra, Abigale, Morgan, Emma, Lucas, Willow, and two nephews, Larry Wayne (Judy) Lafferty of Colfax, Iowa, Jerry Lee Lafferty (Karen) of Phoenix, Arizona.

Preceding her in death are her two sisters, Ruth Elizabeth (Betty) Dees (1918-1976), Marian Lynette Littleton (1920–2009), and two brothers, Robert Askland Bowen (1914-1986) and Richard Maurice Bowen (1916-2001).

She was a wonderful wife, mother, homemaker, and cook and her family adored her.
