Constance Ann (Mallow) Litzel

Feb. 23, 1949 - Dec. 12, 2017

Constance Ann (Mallow) Litzel was born Feb. 23, 1949, in Osage to Giles and Imogene (Love) Mallow. She passed away peacefully at her home, in Ames, on Dec. 12, 2017, surrounded by her family and friends. It was her choice to be cremated.

She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother to the five most gorgeous and wonderful grandchildren on this planet. She will always be remembered for her friendly smile, willingness to help other people and her ‘never give up' spirit.

She was also very proud to have served in the United States Navy and of attaining the rank of Ltjg. Connie served her active duty time as a charge nurse at the Great Lakes Naval Hospital in Illinois. She was serving there in 1973 and helped take care of the POWs who came home after being held in Vietnam prison camps for many years.

She is survived by her husband of 46 years, John Litzel, of Ames; daughter, Elizabeth Gull, of Ames; grandchildren, Isabelle Peterson, Lynden Peterson and Madelyn Peterson, of Des Moines, Lillyana Gull and Kayden Gull, of Cedar Rapids; a brother, Charles (Kathryn) Mallow, of Osage; sisters Claudia Deaton, of St. Ansgar, Crystal (Gregory) Darrow, of Fort Myers, Carolyn (Marty) Cowell, of Clear Lake; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents.

Memorials will be given to Youth and Shelter Services (YSS) Family Foster Care and Adoption Services in Ames.

Family and friends' visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on June 7, 2018, at Grandon Funeral Home, 414 Lincoln Way, Ames, a celebration of life will be at 11 a.m. on June 8, 2018, at St. Andrews Lutheran Church, 209 Colorado Ave., Ames, with burial of cremains at Story Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Ames and with lunch at church after.
