Kenneth E. Egertson
August 6, 1931 - January 1, 2018

Kenneth Edward Egertson, age 86, of Story City, Iowa, formerly of Lauderdale, Minn., passed away January 1, 2018, following complications of a stroke.

Ken was a retired Professor Emeritus of Agricultural Economics from the University of Minnesota. During his career at the University of Minnesota, Ken participated in international projects in Belize, Indonesia, Bulgaria, and Dominica, in addition to his teaching and extension work. Ken and Barbara spent three years on the island of Dominica which became their second home. They also loved the time they spent in Bulgaria. They also spent as much time as possible in Ashby, Minnesota at Barbara’s family farm.

In his retirement, he and his wife, Gloria, lived in Arizona and enjoyed traveling all over the world. Ken became an avid hiker - of almost every trail in Arizona - and at the Grand Canyon, which he hiked three times. Most of all, Ken was known as a kind and generous person and was a great father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. He truly touched everyone he met.

He is survived by his wife, Gloria; his children, Kathy Young and her husband, Garrett, Paul Egertson, Karen Egertson, Jennifer Egertson and Sara Egertson; and his grandchildren, Sam Young, Paul Kinkade, Kate Kinkade, Drew Kinkade and Ava Egertson.

Ken was also fortunate to have a wonderful second family and is survived by his step-daughters, Nancy and Dana Kever, Ann and Daren Smith and Patty and Kevin Mote; his step-grandchildren, Tyler Buck, Stacia (Derek) Wilson, Zach (Nicky) Smith, Chelsea Smith, Casey Mote and Tanner Mote; and his great-grandchildren, Remington, Ellie, Corbin and Rorik, who kept him young.

Ken was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara (Teisberg) Egertson; his son-in-law, Scott Kinkade; and his siblings, Vernon Egertson, Don Egertson and Betty Egertson.

Burial will be at a later date in Ashby, Minnesota.
