Dorothy Marie Nelson, 91, of Slater died Saturday, December 2nd at Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines. Honoring her wishes, no services will be held.

She was born in Slater on December 20, 1925 to Kermode and Erma (Skortman) Nelson. She graduated from Slater High School in 1943. She was united in marriage with Arthur D. Nelson of Slater on October 2, 1945. They had just celebrated their 72nd anniversary. She was a homemaker and had worked at the Farmers Cooperative Creamery in Slater. She enjoyed cooking and baking for her family, especially at Christmas.

Survivors include her husband, Art Nelson of Slater; three sons, Dan (Lynda) Nelson and Mike (Diann) Nelson of Slater, and Bruce Nelson of Loveland, CO; three daughters, Debra Nelson of Des Moines, Caryl (Jim) Burke of Madrid and Anne (Kevin) Michel of Ames; 9 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; a half-brother, Jim (Nancy) Nelson of Slater; and a niece, Luana (Dennis) Denton of Slater.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Harriet Olson; a half-brother, Kenny Nelson; a step-brother, Larry Long; and a grandson, Mike Nelson.

Memorials to the Slater United Methodist Church or charity of giver’s choice.
