Obituary From Adams Soderstrum Funeral Home, Story County, Iowa.

Malcolm A. Rougvie, 89, of Ames passed away Monday November 13, 2017 at Green Hills Health Care Center. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday November 18, 2017 at Iowa State University Cemetery. An open house will be held at Green Hills on Sunday November 19 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.

Malcolm was born February 4, 1928 to parents James and Edith (Smith) Rougvie in Belmont, Massachusetts. After high school at Lawrence Academy in Groton, MA he attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, MA where he obtained a Ph.D. He was a founding member of the Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics at Iowa State University. On March 7, 1959 he married Barbara Spillers. He retired from Iowa State in 1993 as an Associate Professor. Following retirement, Malcolm enjoyed working with the University Museums and Ames Town & Gown, where he served as a board member.

Malcolm is survived by his three children: David (Stacey) Rougvie of Appleton, WI, Ann (Jeff Simon) Rougvie of St. Paul, MN, and James (Brenda Plakans) Rougvie of Beloit, WI; five grandchildren: Stephanie (Matt Heraly) Rougvie, Malcolm Rougvie, Daniel Rougvie, Eamonn Rougvie, and Alexander Rougvie; two great-grandchildren: James and Hazel Heraly.

He was preceded in death by his parents James and Edith, sister Janet, and loving wife Barbara.
