Jan Eugene Van Meter, 80, of Iowa Falls, passed away Friday, November 10, 2017 at Hansen Family Hospital in Iowa Falls.

Jan Eugene Van Meter was born March 26, 1937 in Ames, Iowa to Ray and Daisy (Cowan) Van Meter. Jan was raised in Ames and graduated from Ames High School in 1955. On May 27, 1960 Jan married Judith Keigley at the First United Methodist Church in Ames. Jan and Judy lived in Ames until 1972 then moved to Iowa Falls where Jan purchased his first service station with 24 hour towing. They lived in Iowa Falls until 1981 when he purchased a gas station and convenient store in Arlington Texas. In 1995 they moved back to Iowa Falls. He enjoyed spending time with family, wood-working, gambling, and traveling.

He is survived by two sons, Marlan (Jodie) Van Meter and Mark Van Meter; one daughter, Marcia (Toby) Schmidt; seven grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Daisy (Cowan); wife, Judy (Keigley); and son, Mitch Van Meter.

A memorial gathering will be held at the Elks Lodge #1674, 601 Railroad Street in Iowa Falls, IA on Saturday, November 18th at 2:00pm.
