Glen Wendell Church, 93, of Ames, died on August 7, 2017, with his loving family present at the Israel Hospice House in Ames.

Glen was born on June 1, 1924 in Haydock, Iowa to Glen and Helen (Olson) Church. He graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1942. Following graduation, Glen joined the Army and served during WWII in North Africa, Southern France and Italy. Upon his return home, Glen began his career with Northwestern Bell Telephone Company. During his 38 years with Northwestern Bell, Glen worked as a cable splicer, a lineman and became a construction foreman until his retirement on May 8, 1982.

Glen married Madeline Frances Ludlow on March 26, 1950, at St. Ambrose Cathedral in Des Moines. The couple was blessed with two daughters and settled in Ames.

Glen loved to be outdoors camping, hunting and fishing Leech Lake in Minnesota. He enjoyed woodworking and was always available to lend a helping hand.

Glen is survived by his daughters, Judy (Mike) Clayberg of Altoona, IA, and Jan (Doug) Elliott of Ames; three grandchildren, Wendy (Randy) Warden, Marci (Brett) Burns and Chad (Emily) Elliott; seven great-grandchildren, Lance Warden, Reagan Burns, Samantha Elliott, Ross Elliott, Annarose Elliott, Kierra Elliott and Caleb Lehman; sister-in-law, Rosie Nesheim; nieces, Elaine (Dennis) Hill, Gail (Charlie) Johnson and Diane (Steve) Simmons.

He was preceded in death by his wife Madeline (Ludlow) Church on January 26, 2007.
