Marilyn Joann Sogard
June 10, 1932 - August 16, 2017

Marilyn Sogard, age 85, formerly of Ames, Iowa passed away at Bethany Life in Story City on August 16, 2017. A gathering of friends and family, will be, 2:00-4:00 p.m. followed by a service at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, August 19, 2017 at Grandon Funeral and Cremation Care 414 Lincoln Way in Ames.

Marilyn was born the daughter of Albert and Mabel Anderson on June 10, 1932 in Forest City. Marilyn graduated from Forest City High in 1950. She married Roger Sogard on September 16, 1950 in Forest City, Iowa. Marilyn was active in Bible studies and was a prayer warrior. She taught Sunday school and VBS to many children over the years. Marilyn was also an auxiliary member of the American Legion. Music was one of her many passions, treasuring her time singing with the choir at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Jewell. When she wasn't writing her poetry or reading her bible, she was spending time with her family and serving many elderly neighbors. Marilyn spent 12 years of wintering in Mesa, AZ. She enjoyed many activities from Grace Community Church, and made many wonderful memories with family.

Marilyn is survived by her husband Roger Sogard of Ames; son Brian (Rita) Sogard of Woodland, CA; son Kirk Sogard of Gilbert, AZ; daughter Janene (George) Noble of Ames; grandsons Shawn (Faye) Sogard of Lincoln, CA; Jason (Carrie) Noble of Pella; Scott Noble of Milwaukee, WI; great-grandchildren Jonas, Asher, Caleb, Judah Noble and Olivia, Victoria Sogard; sister Nancy (Kenneth) Johnson of Plymouth, MN; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Mabel Anderson; step-father Walter Thompson; siblings Hazel, Grace, Evelyn, Carroll, Marvin, Janice, Arden, Merle, Lucille, Marlowe and their many spouses.
