FRANK J. CHAPMAN

Frank J. Chapman, long a prominent and much esteemed farmer of this county, living between Nevada and Cambridge, died on Tuesday last at the home in this city of his daughter, Mrs. J. A. Shaver after a protracted illness. Mr. Chapman's malady was a general nervous break-down, and it undoubtedly had its origin in an accident on December 4, 1910 in which he got his left hand caught and crushed in a sorghum mill on the farm. From this accident there resulted an amputation, first of his hand and then of the arm, and although the wound healed well after the second operation yet he never received general vigor and strength but continued to give to his numerous friends the impression of being very much shattered. In consequence of this failing health he sold the farm, an in March last year moved to Nevada and his improvement here not being satisfactory, he removed last June to San Juan, Texas, hoping for real recuperation in the Rio Grande Valley. The hope was disappointed, however, and in the winter his condition became so serious that he was brought back to Nevada, arriving here early in March. He has since been at the home of his son-in-law, where he died.

Mr. Chapman was born in Greene county, Wisconsin July 2, 1854 and he died at Nevada, Iowa April 22, 1913 aged 58 years, 9 months and 20 days. He came with his parents to Iowa when he was fifteen years of age and after a few months span at Eldora came to Nevada, at or near which place he continued to live for the most part of the last year, as stated, in Texas. He was married in Nevada July 11, 1880 to Miss Laura Kindlespire of this city and he is survived by Mrs. Chapman, their five children, two grandchildren and numerous collateral relatives. The children are Chas. of Chicago, Geo. V., Ella (Mrs. J. A. Shaver,) and Ben of Nevada and Mary (Mrs. Perry Williams) of San Juan, Texas. Mr. Chapman was a man of much worth in every sense and was highly regarded throughout the community in which he spent his active life. His funeral was conducted Thursday after noon from the Adventist church, Prof. J. G. Lemmon officiating.
