MARY BAILEY
Mary Bailey whose death occurred on Friday last at the home in this city of her sister, Mrs. Fannie Lash, was a native of Canada and came with her father's family to Story county in 1855. The father, Henry Bailey, located on a farm a little south of Nevada, where continued the family home until his death some eleven years ago. She grew up here and when she was grown became an expert tailoress. She worked at her trade here for several years and in 1884 removed to Des Moines, where she continued at the trade with an interval at Winterset, until about four years ago. She then went to Manning to keep house for her brother, and thence she returned last February to Nevada in broken health to spend her last days with her sister, Mrs. Lash. Since returning here she had ridden out occasionally and she went down to Maxwell and to Des Moines for short periods, but she never was about town at all, and a month ago she came back to Nevada to stay. She died as stated on August 16, 1912, aged 67 years and 6 months. She was a woman of fine character and much competence, and she will be much missed by her family and many devoted friends.
Her funeral was conducted from the Lash residence Sunday afternoon by Rev. Cole, and there were present about thirty relatives and numerous friend. Among those present were her one brother and five sisters to wit: H. Wallace Bailey of Manning and Mesdames Gaye of Harvard, Ill., J. W. Sutherland of Baraboo, Wis., Jesse Dinsmore of California, M. M. Applegate of Maxwell and Fannie Lash of Nevada.
