From Rasmusson-Bacon Funeral Home & Crematory obituary, Nevada and Maxwell, Story County, Iowa:
Patricia Jean (Purk) Jensen Dodds, 88, of rural Ames, passed away peacefully at Eastern Star Home in Boone, on Saturday, July 22nd 2017. Patricia, the youngest of four children, was born January 4th 1929, to Cory Franklin and Pearl Mildred (Loft) Purk in Correctionville, Iowa. She graduated from Nevada High School in 1947.
Patricia married her high school sweetheart, Ralph Jensen on September 5th 1948. In August of 1950, they had their beloved son, Lars. Unfortunately, their time together was cut short as Ralph passed on October 15th 1951. In 1955, Patricia married James (Jim) Dodds and four years later they moved from Gilbert to a farm in Grant Township where they made their home together farming and raising sheep. After 56 years of marriage, Jim passed on March 23rd 2011.
Pat, a she was often called, was known for her feisty yet dedicated work ethic. She spent her career as an administrative assistant, working for Donnelly’s Marketing, Iowa State University and finally The City of Ames Assessor’s Office from where she retired.
She was a very proud 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She also enjoyed active involvement in the American Business Woman's Association, Judea White Shrine, Order of the Amaranth, Nevada First Responders, American Legion Axillary, Moose Lodge and Royal Neighbors.
Pat was a Christian, who loved the Lord. Her dedication to the many organizations she was a part of was extraordinary. She will long be remembered for her roast beef salad, pistachio fluff and next-to-impossible-to-replicate pie crust.
Left to honor and remember her legacy is her son, Lars (Carol) Jensen of Nevada; four grandchildren, Barbara (Stephen) Owen of Nevada, Stasia (Brian) Renfrow of Nevada, Jon (Sarah) Jensen of Huxley and Julie Jensen of Des Moines; and six great-grandchildren, Tyler (Caitlin) Crawford, Lindsey Crawford, William Owen, Gabrielle Owen, Josie Jensen and Garrett Jensen. She is also survived by her niece, Annette (Rick) Lott Starks of Missouri, her brother-in-law, Bill Dodds of Ames; sister-in-law, Norma Lande of Webster City; and special friends, Bob and Tammy Chance, Judy Hemstock, and Lillian Johnson. Pat is preceded in death by her husbands, Ralph and Jim; her parents; brothers, Frank & Harry Purk; sister, Lillian DeHart; niece, Rosemary Dunham Yocam and great-great grandson, Carlin Crawford.
Visitation will be Tuesday, July 25th 2017, from 5 to 7 p.m. with an Eastern Star Service beginning at 7 p.m. at Rasmusson-Bacon Funeral Home, 1418 Fawcett Parkway in Nevada. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 26th 2017, at the Memorial Lutheran Church 701 11th Street in Nevada with interment following at the Nevada Municipal Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be directed to The Iowa Department of the Blind in honor of Pat’s memory.
