David Eugene Phillips, 73, of Zearing, passed away on Wednesday, June 14, 2017 at his home in Zearing, Iowa. A memorial visitation will be held on Sunday, June 25, 2017 from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. at Fredregill Funeral Home in Zearing. A memorial service will be held on Monday, June 26, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at the Bethel United Methodist Church in Zearing with Pastor Tom Poppe officiating. Burial will follow in the Lincoln Township Cemetery in Zearing.
David was born on June 24, 1943 to Marion “King” and Mae (Blayney) Phillips in Iowa Falls, Iowa. He was raised in Zearing and graduated from the first graduating class of NESCO in 1961. Following school David began farming. He married the love of his life, Mary Kay Hoel on May 6, 1961 at St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church in Zearing. The couple lived outside of Zearing on the farm and raised two sons. David worked on the farm all of his life as well as various other side jobs including; the cheese factory, carpenter work on the Zearing Fertilizer and many other local houses, McDonald’s, and the Zearing Health Care Clinic. He was very active and served on many local boards throughout the years. David had a great love for his entire family and farming. Spending time with his family most especially his grandkids and great-grandkids was always the highlight of his day. He would watch them and play with them for hours. He enjoyed coaching his sons in their younger years, fishing, snow skiing, and water skiing.
Those left to cherish his loving memory are his wife of 56 years Mary Kay Phillips, of Zearing, IA; sons Douglas (Mary) Phillips, of Zearing, IA, Dennis (Melinda) Phillips, of Ulman, MO; grandchildren Dillon (Ann) Phillips, of Indianola, IA, Sara (Matthew) Stoffel, of Des Moines, IA, Joshua (Brittani) Phillips, of Camp Lejeune, NC, and Katherine (Jon Curry) Phillips, of Sedalia, MO; great-grandchildren Grace, Clare, David “Dewi”, Hadley, Thomas, and Quinn; sister Diana Davis; many nieces, nephews, and close friends.
David was preceded in death by his parents, and sister Donna Murrel.

Fredregill Funeral Home in Zearing has been entrusted with the care of David and his family.
