Ruth Marie Leonard, 105, of Nevada, passed away Sunday, June 4, 2017, at Story County Senior Care in Nevada.
Ruth was born March 13, 1912, in Eldora, the daughter of Frank and Marie (Koepen) Oldenburg. She graduated from Eldora High School in 1930 and was united in marriage to Hamlin “Hammy” Leonard on July 14, 1935, in Eldora. Ruth was a charter member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Ames where she taught Sunday school and confirmation classes for many years. She enjoyed gardening, fishing, cooking and animals, especially cats. Ruth had been a Cub Scout and Girl Scout Leader and loved spending time with her family.
Ruth is survived by her son, David (Joyce) Leonard of Grundy Center; her daughters: Marie (Larry) Hostetler of Colo, Pamela Vaughan of Nevada and Pat (Tim) Erickson of McCallsburg; nine grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sisters: Verna Stielow and Betty Tietz; her brother, Lawrence Oldenburg and a grandson, Jeffery Alan Vaughan.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, June 8, 2017, at Rasmusson-Bacon Funeral Home in Nevada with burial to follow at the Nevada Municipal Cemetery. Family will greet friends one hour prior to the services.
Memorial contributions may be made to Story County Senior Care in memory of Ruth.
