Marie Caltvedt-Loney, 90, of McCallsburg, Iowa passed away on Friday, May 12, 2017 at the Zearing Health Care Center surrounded by her loving family. A visitation will be held on Monday, May 15, 2017 at Bethany Lutheran Church in McCallsburg from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at the Bethany Lutheran Church with Pastor Kathy Sandmann officiating. Burial will follow in the Warren Township Cemetery.
Marie was born on March 13, 1927 to Harvey and Celia (McCreary) Wolfe in Independence, IA. She attended Mud Swamp Country School in Hubbard, IA and graduated from New Providence High School in 1944.
She moved to Des Moines with plans to attend nursing school, but instead joined the war effort and began work on the assembly line at the Kent Ordnance Plant, building artillery during WWII.
In 1948 she married John Caltvedt. Together, they had three children, Claudia McCall (Chicago), Don Caltvedt (Mantua, Utah) and Jacki Meimann (McCallsburg). She was a bookkeeper for many family business ventures and worked at Spekeen Construction in Nevada for twenty years.Marie was a longtime member of Bethany Lutheran Church and the American Legion Auxiliary. A champion tournament cribbage player, she could often be found with friends around her kitchen table enjoying the game and one’s another’s company. She was an avid reader and sports enthusiast.
In 1989, she married Wally Loney and spent many happy years with him until his passing in 2016. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband John, husband Wally, sister, June Deviney, and her brother, Donald Wolfe.
She leaves behind four grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, many of whom experienced first-hand her competitive spirit and sharp mind playing card games of any kind.
