OBITUARY

SAMUEL A. BALLARD

Samuel A. Ballard, whose death occurred very suddenly last Thursday afternoon, was at the time a resident of Story City; but for the greater part of a long and useful life he had lived in Howard township. He had been deaf from his infancy; but he was of especially cheerful disposition; helpful to others, and mush esteemed by all who were associated with him. He was 72 years of age and unmarried. He was the owner of the old Ballard homestead in Howard township; but he was making his home with the family of his sister, Mrs. H. F. Ferguson, at Story City. At the time when he was stricken he had been out on the right of way of the Iowa Central railroad, watching some operations of the section gang; and something had just occurred that pleased him greatly and caused him to laugh most heartily. Then suddenly he fell over, and was dead. It was a very sudden ending; but there are very many people who, if they had their choice for their own end, would have it about that way.
