Death of Adam Foy.

Death has claimed another of our pioneer settlers. Adam Foy, aged seventy-three, passed away from his home southeast of Maxwell August 8; his funeral was conducted by Rev. Father Quinn, August 10, at the Holy Cross Catholic church, and interment was in the adjacent cemetery. Mr. Foy was a native of Queen county, Ireland; came to this country at the age of 18; as a sailor on the Mississippi fiver boats was much thrilling service during the Civil War; came to Story county soon after, and worked for Hugh Carney on the College Farm; married in 1864 Miss Maria Lester of Des Moines; and settled on the broad acres adjoining Skunk bottom which continued to be his earthly home. His acquaintance grew as did also esteem for him as the country settled up, and the hospitality of his home became proverbial. His widow and his adopted son Frank survive.
