GEORGE AMBROSE ARMSTRONG

George Ambrose Armstrong was born at the Marathon New York, December 15, 1837, and died at his home, about two miles southeast of Ames, Thursday morning, June 6, 1907. Mrs. Armstrong came with his parents to Jones county, Iowa in 1852. He was married to Julia C. Benedict January 28 1863. They moved to Ames in 1871 and have since made their home. Four children were born to them, Mrs. Anna and Lee, who are both at home, Mrs. Taylor, wife of Rev. Wesley Taylor of Carroll, and Emmett of Nevada. Mr. Armstrong was a man who was well known and held in the highest esteem throughout the county. He was a member of the Christian church of Ames for which he did active service until his health failed about three years ago. The funeral services was conducted by his pastor, Rev. H. D. Williams, from his late home Saturday afternoon, and notwithstanding the threatening weather it was one of the largest funerals ever held in this community. The quartette from the church choir sang some of the hymns that he had loved so well to hear. There were many beautiful floral offerings, sent as tokens of love and respect by friends in Boone, Nevada, Ames, Des Moines and Cedar Rapids. The body was laid in rest in the Ames cemetery. The family has the sincere sympathy of the entire community.
