Audrey J. Gauley, 95, passed away peacefully on May 3, 2017.
Audrey was born on August 27, 1921 in Jewell, Iowa to Raymond Thomas and Barbara (Horner) Hood. She lived in Dayton Beach, Florida from age one to fifteen and returned to Jewell in 1936. They moved to Sheffield, Iowa and she graduated from Sheffield High School in 1939. She attended St. Luke’s Methodist Hospital in Cedar Rapids for three years where she earned her R.N. in nursing. She married Lawrence F. Gauley on July 9, 1944. In 1962, she and her children moved to Roland, IA. She worked as a nurse at the Story County Hospital in Nevada and Bethany Manor Nursing Home in Story City. She pursued other interests and retired from General Financial Supply in Nevada in 1986. She was a member of Salem Lutheran Church. She was active in church, enjoyed community activities, and was an avid reader. She enjoyed most being with her children and family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Leo Hood; son, Lynn; sister, Eris Frey and brother-in-law Bill Frey. She is survived by three sons, Allan Gauley of Nevada, Bruce (Linda) Gauley of Roland, Frank (Teri) Gauley of Williamsburg, and a daughter, Gail (Tim) Nordholm of Ankeny. She is also survived by six grandchildren: grandsons Matthew (fiancé Abby Walker) Gauley and Tony (Autum) Gauley, all of Cedar Rapids; granddaughers Rachelle (Mike) McCabe of Story City, Colette (Nick) Huser of Ankeny, Jeni Schultz of Williamsburg, and Melissa McIntosh of Iowa City; fourteen great grandchildren: Jacob and Garrett McCabe; Blake, Mia, and Logan Huser; Grace and Asher Schultz; Owen and Harper Gauley, Kailey, Kaleb, and Kelsie Gauley; Janessa Bieghler of Roland; Armani McIntosh, and many nieces and nephews.
There will be a Celebration of Life at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 10, 2017 at Salem Lutheran Church in Roland, IA, with visitation an hour before the service.
Memorials may be made to Salem Lutheran Church.
