OBITUARY

DEATH OF CLARENCE P. BRIGGS

Clarence P. Briggs, youngest son of Mrs. Jennie Briggs and her late husband, Otis Briggs, died Sunday at Phoenix, Arizona, where for the past two years he had been most of the time endeavoring to ward off the ravage of consumption. The news of his death was received in Nevada last evening but did not reach many of his friends until this morning. Prior to the receipt of this telegram another had been received by his brother-in-law, Jay G. Dutton, from Mrs. Briggs, stating that his condition was critical and asking him to come. In compliance with this request Mr. and Mrs. Dutton started last evening for Arizona. If the later telegram had been promptly delivered they might have been reached in Des Moines; but as it was it is doubtful whether they received the second advice before leaving Kansas City. Telephone calls for Mr. Dutton's residence, however, evoked no response, and there was unfortunate delay before someone else could be found to receive the telegram.

Clarence Briggs was about twenty-three years of age and had been born and reared in Nevada, in late years, however, he had been with or near his parents and after his father's death late in 1903, with his mother, in California. The condition of his health, however, drove him to Arizona where doubtless his life was prolonged further than would have been the case anywhere else. The sympathy of many friends will be extended to his mother and other relatives in his death. We presume that his body will be brought back to Nevada for burial.
