Raymond Louis Schnur, 93, of Colo, passed away Monday, March 20, 2017, at Bethany Life Community in Story City.
Raymond was born May 10, 1923, in Story County the son of William H. and Lila (Baker) Schnur. He attended country school and graduated from Colo High School in 1940. Raymond was united in marriage to Alice “Dolly” Burchland on February 24, 1945, at her parents’ home in Gilman. He worked 20 years for Clay Equipment selling equipment for hog confinements and farmed near Gilman, Collins and Colo all of his life. Raymond served as a trustee for New Albany Township and was instrumental in acquiring a pickup and water truck for the rural fire department. He enjoyed woodworking, welding and building toys. You could always find him working in his shop.
Raymond is survived by his wife of 72 years, Alice “Dolly” of Colo; his daughter, Cheryl (John) Kingland of Ames; his son, Gene (Tammie) Schnur of Colo; his grandchildren: Jason (Kristin) Sjulin, Branden (Holly) Schnur, Whitney (Billy) Holland, Brittany (Blake) Perisho and Nick Tillman (Jess Burnett); his great-grandchildren: Mackenzie, Lane, Josh and Lilly; his sister, Elsie (Tom) Ryan of Cresco; and his sisters-in-law: Doris Schnur and Jean Burchland.
Raymond was preceded in death by his parents; his sons: Raymond Jr. in infancy and Duane Schnur; three brothers; one sister; and five nephews.
Visitation will be 2:30-4:30 p.m. Sunday, March 26, at Rasmusson-Bacon Funeral Home in Nevada. Cremation will follow the visitation. Burial of cremated remains will be at a later date at the Colo Cemetery in Colo.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Colo Fire and Rescue or Bethany Life Foundation.
