From Rasmusson-Bacon Funeral Home & Crematory obituary, Nevada and Maxwell, Story County, Iowa:
Chadrick Donald Mullihan, 73, of Collins, passed away Thursday, March 16, 2017, at the Kavanagh Hospice House in Des Moines.
Chad was born April 10, 1943, in Newton, Iowa to Marion and Nadine Mullihan. He was a farm kid growing up in rural Mingo, Iowa and attended Mingo High School, graduating in 1961. Chad enlisted in the United States Air Force that same year. He was stationed with the 48th Tactical Fighter Wing at R.A.F. Lakenheath in England. After his enlistment was up, he joined the United States Navy. Chad was stationed aboard the USS Cato Parish and embarked to fight in the Vietnam War. He served in the Brown Water Navy while in Vietnam, mainly on PBR’s patrolling up and down the Mekong Delta.
After his honorable discharge from the Navy, Chad returned to Iowa and began his employment at the Maytag Corporation. It was at a company picnic that he met his future wife, Martha and a step-daughter, Kim. They were married December 26, 1969. Along the way they had two more children: April and Shawn. The couple later divorced.
Chad was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed woodworking, beer, cribbage and spending time with his family and friends. He greeted everyone he met warmly and with a smile or a quick witted remark. He loved his children, but his grandchildren were his real passion. He loved spending time with them more than anything else in the world.
Chad is survived by his children: Kim (Scott) Droessler of Cedar Rapids, April (Keith) Warne of Collins and Shawn (Brooke) Mullihan of Altoona; his brother Ted (Charlene) Mullihan of Collins; 9 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; along with many nieces and nephews.
Chad was preceded in death by his former wife; his parents; his brother Max; and two sisters: Marlene and Phyllis.
Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, March 21 at Rasmusson-Bacon Funeral Home in Maxwell. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 22 also at the funeral home with Pastor Tom Lee officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery near Van Meter.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Chad Mullihan Memorial Fund at Maxwell State Bank.
