Elizabeth Gene Hespen was born February 13, 1926, to William Erdix and Mabel Gwen (Noble) Montgomery in Hollywood, California. She attended Iowa State College and American Institute of Business and worked at Iowa State College and in Des Moines before her marriage. She met her husband, William Frederick Hespen, shortly after his arrival from Chicago to attend Iowa State College in 1946, and they married after his graduation.

Elizabeth died at 91 years of age in Ames, Iowa, on March 6, 2017.

Elizabeth is survived by four children, Susan Janine Hespen, Nancy Jane (Terry) Reilly, Sandra Jean Hespen, and Howard Russell (Judy) Hespen; six grandchildren, Mary, Brenda, Lon, Patty, Scott, and Brian; eleven great-grandchildren, Adam, Jenna, Lauren, Coy, Reilly, Allison, Trent, Leah, Casey, Anna, and Lindsey; and one great-great-grandchild, Sullivan.

She was preceded in death by her younger brother, Herbert Allen Montgomery, who died at age seven, and by her husband and two children, Laurie Ann Hespen and William Arthur Hespen.

Adams Funeral Home in Ames is assisting the family with arrangements.
