Ed Brigham Dies of Heart Attack Alone In Room
Edward Brigham, 68, for over a quarter of a century a bachelor resident of Nevada township and city, was found dead in his room in the Henrehan building, over the Tipton Drug Store Thursday about 9:00 p. m.
Indications were that the death had taken place several hours before, from a heart attack, while he was seated in a chair near a window in his apartment.
The body was found by Ellis Armstrong, a friend who had gone up to call on Brigham, and Mrs. Wesley Perry who lives in an adjacent apartment.
Mrs. Perry who had been in the habit of seeing the man about the hallway of the building, had noted his failure to appear during the day and when Armstrong appeared and made enquiry as to his apartment, they entered the unlocked door to find the man cold in death.
Officers were notified and the body was turned over to the Morfoot Funeral home for care and the county coroner notified.
Coroner Mills was in the city this morning and after viewing the body and looking into the matter decided that an inquest was not necessary. Death probably occurred about 8 p. m. yesterday afternoon according to the best available evidence.
Mr. Brigham,, who was a native of Winnebago county, Wis., where he was born February 28, 1875, had been a resident of Iowa and Story county for about 35 years and for about 27 years of that time had lived alone a shack on the Roy Torey place, near Hickory Grove school house, in Nevada township.
\
Unmarried, he had spent much of his time alone and had worked as a farm hand and at times as a tile ditcher. He was a quiet, unassuming character, industrious and upright in his dealings and companionable to the circle of friends and acquaintances he had acquired.
So far as is known there were no there were no relatives in this part of the country, an only brother having passed away in northern Iowa about two years ago.
Funeral rites will be held Saturday at 2:00 from the Morfoot funeral home, after which the body will be laid to rest in the Hickory Grove cemetery, southeast of Nevada.
