B. Fagerland Killed by Cars

B. Fagerland, a tile ditcher of this place, was killed by a C. & N. W. train near South Center street at Marshalltown Tuesday morning at 1:45. He was found at that time by an Iowa Central engineer who was going to work and who reported the case to Coroner Jay. Dr. Jay had the body taken to A. E. Wilbur's undertaking parlors where it now rests awaiting an inquest. A post card in a pocket led to the identification of the body. Mr. Fagerland leaves a wife and two sons to mourn his untimely end. "Drink" is credited with being the cause of the accident. No arrangements have been made for the funeral as yet.

Further down on the same page in the same column:

News reached here today (Tuesday) that Bartholius Fagerland, of McCallsburg was found dead near the union depot at Marshalltown. he was killed by being run down by a train or was struck by the train while attempting to cross the track. No one saw the accident hence just now it happened will never be known. His death is supposed to have been instantaneous. The remains are to be brought to McCallsburg where his family reside for burial. The ending of this life is sad to contemplate, and a charitable world will extend heart-felt sympathy to the bereaved family. Many years the Fagerland family lived here in Roland having moved to the "Berg" a few years ago.
