Stephen H. Phillips, a member of the Soldiers' Home from Kelley, Story county, died at the hospital at the Soldiers Home in Marshalltown Tuesday night of senile debility. Mr. Phillips was 80 years old, and entered the home May 6, 1904. He was a native of Ulster county, New York, and was born March 2, 1829. He enlisted at Kingston, N. Y., Aug. 1, 1862, in Company B, One Hundred Twentieth New York infantry, and was discharged March 29, 1863 at Kingston owing to sickness.

Aside from his wife, Mrs. Maria H. Phillips, who is a member of the home, Mr. Phillips is survived by two sons and one daughter H. L. Phillips, of Colorado Spring, Colo.; E. W. Phillips, of Des Moines, and Mrs. Maude R. Eddy of the City of Mexico.

The funeral was held Thursday and interment was in the home cemetery.

SUBMITTER'S NOTE: Maria Phillips, the wife of the deceased, was Maria C. Gray. Although they are married and living in McHenry County, Illinois in the 1880 census, marriage records show they were married 29 October 1892 in McHenry County, Illinois. However, both the death and marriage record of their son, Elmer Warren Phillips referenced above, lists his parents as Stephen H. Phillips and Maria Gray.
