Michael Allen Nickey
October 5, 1943 - February 23, 2017

Beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend Michael Allen Nickey, 73, of Auburn, CA, passed away on February 23rd, 2017.

Michael was born in Muncie, Indiana, to Howard and Bonnie Nickey on October 5th, 1943. Michael lived in Ames, Iowa, graduated from Ames High School in 1961 and Iowa State University in 1965. He was a member and two-term president of the Iowa State Chapter of Delta Upsilon fraternity while enrolled with ROTC.

He was then commissioned as an Ensign in the U.S. Navy. He was home ported in Alameda, California, aboard the USS Vega serving several years in the Navy during the Vietnam War.

Following the Navy, he attended Stanford University and earned an MBA. He was then employed by Hewlett Packard where he worked for 36 years until his retirement as the Senior Site Manager of the Roseville campus.

He was a board member of Child Advocates of Placer County and involved in Sons In Retirement and the Elks Lodge. He was also active in the Auburn chapter of the VFW lodge.

Michael was predeceased by his parents Bonnie & Howard Nickey, his brother Don Nickey of Kingman Arizona, and Carolyn Nickey (wife).

Michael is survived by Jeanne Silva (wife) of Auburn CA, Karen Gross Nyberg, sister, (Brad) of West Des Moines IA & Linda Hildreth, sister, (Kent) of San Diego CA, Christine Taupier, daughter, (Phil) & Philip Taupier, grandson, of Campbell CA, Joseph, son, (Jessica) & Jackie Picone, granddaughter of Santa Clara CA, Michael E. Nickey (son) of Sunnyvale CA and Judith Nickey as well as many nieces & nephews.

Celebration of life will be held on 4/9/2017 at the Auburn Elks Lodge beginning at 2pm with Navy color guard to follow.
Arrangements under the direction of Chapel of the Hills, Auburn, CA.
