Commodore Tunney Litchfield was born in Ames, Iowa on July 20, 1928, the son of Commodore Fillmore and Lucille Rutter Litchfield.

On February 6, 2017 Commodore passed away peacefully with his family by his side, after suffering a massive stroke. He reached the age of 88 years, 6 months and 17 days.

He lived most of his life in Ames and graduated from Ames High School in 1947. Tunney was a star football player at Ames High school and as a quote from his high school coach back in the day "Litch was one hell of a good football player!" He was not only a tough fellow but very skilled at his position.

On February 9, 1950, Commodore married the love of his life Margaret "Peggy" Riordan in Boone, Iowa. They later had two daughters, Linda Michelle and Julie Ann.

He honorably served in the United States Army and served in Korea for a year in 1953.

Litch and Peggy enjoyed many years going to Ames High Football games. He was also an avid bowler and golfer for many years.

Commodore was known for many years as a Foreman and later a Salesman at the Schoeneman's Lumber Company in Ames. He was an expert at his job as a consultant and sales on jobs concerning everything you needed to know about the construction and lumber trade.

He also was a Mail Carrier for 7 years with the Post Office in Ames.

He loved and cherished his family and supported all of his children and grandchildren in any ventures they pursued. Tunney was a fine husband, father, brother and he was a "rock" for friends and family and all who were fortunate to know him!

He is survived by his wife Peggy of Ames; two daughters, Linda Michelle Griffen and (Travis Gregory) and Julie Ann and (Rick Taylor), both of Ames; five grandchildren, Kyle, Nate and Jordan Morrison, Daniel Griffen and Maria Taylor; two brothers, Jack Litchfield of Tennessee, and George Litchfield of Randall.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Commodore and Lucille Litchfield; two brothers, Frederick Litchfield, and Donald Litchfield, and a half-brother, Robert Allen; seven sisters, Lucille Ella, Tinney Gail, Betty Jean, Viola Helen, Eleanor Mae, Eveline Mae, and Velma Katherine.

Visitation will be Wednesday, February 15, 2017, from 4:00 p.m.to 6:00 p.m. at Grandon Funeral and Cremation Care in Ames. A Memorial service will be held at 6:00 p.m., February 15, 2017, at Grandon Funeral and Cremation Care.
